Day 14 – 10/13/13: Africa and Oceania

The Met changed its 9:30 opening time to 10:00, so the crowd at the opening was bigger than before. But now it's open Mondays, so I can't complain.

During the first day of our Columbus Weekend trip, I saw the final African gallery, and moved on to Oceania, with its huge glass-covered gallery. Here there were many impressive pieces, including a large canoe and a row of 20-foot-tall ceremonial Mbis poles from New Guinea, all commissioned and donated by Michael Rockefeller (son of Nelson Rockefeller), after whom these galleries are named. I left in early afternoon to join my family for a Broadway show, Soul Doctor .
